The APA Style blog is the official companion to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Seventh Edition. It’s run by the APA Style team—a group of style experts who work with APA Style every day. We regularly publish posts to talk about what we love—writing, publishing, and APA Style. Occasionally we feature guest bloggers who write about their areas of specialty. Meet the APA Style team to learn more about us.
The APA Style blog began in 2009 with the publication of the sixth edition of the Publication Manual. During its first 10 years, more than 300 posts reached millions of readers around the world. The style team is excited to continue the journey with the publication of the seventh edition of the manual. Posts published as of October 2019 will address seventh edition style. Posts regarding sixth edition style will be available in the sixth edition archive until August 2020.
The APA Style blog is a place for the APA Style team to explore the nuances of style guidelines and to provide insights on updates in the seventh edition. In contrast, the APA Style website is your resource for questions with straightforward answers. For example, the website (and the Publication Manual—see Section 9.29) will tell you that a book reference no longer requires the publisher location, and a blog post will explain why we decided to omit publisher location from book references. We will also use the APA Style blog to make announcements about APA Style—for example, to inform you of new products or to share updates to the style as they are needed over time.
